Will my county accept these plans?

Often yes, but no plan seller can promise it, and we don't.Each county decides what it needs to see before it issues a building permit. Many rural counties accept a stock plan set like ours for a single-family home. Counties often also ask for one or more of these, which come from other people, not from us:

  • Steel building drawings from your kit supplier. If you build with a red-iron or steel kit, the supplier provides the engineering for the steel shell. Your county may want those drawings with your permit.
  • A local engineer's stamp. Some counties, especially in high-wind or heavy-snow areas, want a licensed engineer in your state to review and stamp the foundation or structure. We do not stamp or seal drawings.
  • A site plan. Where the house sits on your land, plus septic and well locations. Your county or a local surveyor can tell you what's needed.

What to do before you buy: call your county building department and ask, "Do you accept stock house plans for a single-family home, and what else do you need with them?" Most can tell you over the phone.

If your county asks for corrections or clarifications to our drawings, we make them. Up to3 rounds of revisions are included, within 12 months of purchase. How revisions work.

What we are, and what we aren't

We design barndominium house plans and sell the drawings. We do not sell steel, lumber or kits. We are not a builder or contractor. We do not stamp or seal drawings as a licensed architect or engineer. We publish researched prices because we sell information, not construction. That is why our prices are on the page and a builder's usually aren't.
